SQUARE FOOT GARDENING PROGESS REPORT
You can’t see them very well in this shot but believe me the spaghetti squash seem to be happy just hanging around.

Yellow peppers are growing as they should.

This green pepper was first to actually make it into the house.

But what the heck is going on with the cherry tomatoes? Vinezilla is now seven feet tall!

And sadly, the broccoli is being enjoyed by others.

All in all, I think the SFG has been a great experience. We’ve used only bits and pieces of space, on the side of the garage and bordering the drive, and dang if those little plants didn’t flourish in just a few inches of dirt and not even the suggested amount of required sunlight! We may be late bloomers in the gardening department but this summer’s effort has been fun and we did learn a few things.

This is looking great! Our broccoli has been stolen by deer! The little bit we have been able to eat has been delicious though. Keep trying because home grown broccoli is soooo good!

I WANT MY HOME GROWN BROCCOLI! I think we’ve got a potato bug issue. Not sure what to do about that…
Congratulations to you Amanda!

Our SFG drowned when we had all that dang rain. Some things like the radishes are doing well, but most of the stuff is just struggling because of to much rian. We’ll just keep plugging along.

Good work Card Family, that looks fabulous. What did you do with that big green pepper?

Kris, I’m sad to hear that so much of your work ended up floating away. I wonder if our plant survived the big rain storms because they’re next to big structures that may have offered even a small amount of shelter. Next year!
Thanks Melanie! The green pepper was diced and added to some roasted vegetables. Very nice in deed.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Welcome Margaret! Do you have a suggestion for getting rid of potato bugs? It seems like we have more than a few and they’ve really done a number on our veggies.

Those darn snails and slugs. My garden has been harassed by them too! I can’t put down snail bait (killer) because I have a dog and it is lethal to pets. If you don’t have family pets then get a box for $5 at wal-mart. It really works. I’ve used it in my front yard to protect my flowers.

Thanks for the suggestion Michelle. I have a pet but he doesn’t mess around with the vegetables. Do you think it would be safe to use?

I am impressed with your garden. My carrots, and radishes all wnt to tops. because of the rain. My strawberries are growing great. My tomatoes and squash are doing better with a little bit of warmth. It seems like you are doing much better than I did this summer. I had a fairly good crop of sugar peas. I may plant peas and broccoli again, toward fall. There is always next spring.

That’s the spirit, Lee!
Who knew that extra rain could be such a problem? I’ve got lots to learn…

I have a 4ft by 4ft box.. Two giant tomato plants taller than I am with only about 13 tomatos. My zuchinni plant got ate by squash bugs and billions of ear wigs.. I think they got my pumpkin plant too (its turning brown and is holy).
On the other hand.. I was given a zillion green beans (free) and I canned them, 22 qts and 24 pints. Probably atleast a year supply. lol
