EARLY BIRD!
I know it’s not a competition buuuuut…MY BIRD’S ALREADY DONE!
Sick and wrong? Wait, it get’s worse. I roasted this turkey in a brown paper bag at 250 degrees for almost 11 hours. And all those people who say this is dangerous are just mean-spirited and scared. It turns out perfect every time!
Before going to bed last night I removed all the meat from the bones, made the gravy, and carefully placed everything into my very best Crock-Pot. It stays in the freezer for the next few days and then all I have to do is warm, already simmering in gravy, and serve it steaming for the big meal.

My mom’s turkey recipe is cooked for 15 hours! You’re right, it always turns out wonderful, very moist and tender. I like the idea of cooking the bird so soon in advance and freezing it in the crock pot. What a great time-saving idea!

That’s so cool! Do you mind sharing the details of her recipe? 15 hours is impressive. And you’re right about the time-saving. Plus, having the turkey ready days ahead of time also removes a huge amount of stress and mess from Thanksgiving. I’m a much happier Pilgrim!

Hold on, I’m still confused. You cook the bird in a brown paper bag in the oven? Or do you really use a smoker? Please share the specifics, gals! I am all for a less hectic holiday. (I only have one oven… that’s where trouble comes in sometimes)

Do you get crispy skin? Please share!

Yes, I cook it in a paper bag in a regular oven and yes the skin is very crispy. I just posted all the nitty-gritty in the blog. Let me know if you have any other questions!
