Easy Apple Crisp
Fresh Ingredients
- 1 c. butter
Storage Ingredients
- 10 c. dehydrated apple slices
- ¼ c. bottled lemon juice
Topping
- 1 c. oats
- 1 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. nutmeg
- ¼ tsp. salt
Butter a 9 x 13” cake pan. Fill with dehydrated apples and drizzle with lemon juice. Then pour in 6 cups of hot water and allow apples to soak for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. For topping, cut butter into ¼” pieces and toss with remaining dry ingredients. Carefully spoon topping onto re-hydrated apples. (Pan should be very full but will bake down.) Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour, or until lightly toasted on top. Best when served hot with vanilla ice cream.
This dessert can be prepared hours ahead of time, stored in the refrigerator, and then baked while your guests enjoy dinner. This recipe is totally foolproof, easier than apple pie, and tastes like something from your grandmother’s kitchen.

Leisa,
As a child I watched my parents build their food storage and do exactly what you did. We stored what we ate and supplemented it with fresh goods. I followed the same pattern. When we were unemployed and later on half salary at one point, we used our storage. Whenever we were low on cash I could turn to the food I had stocked up on. But the best part was that when I was cooking and ran out of items, the basement always had it and I saved hours of time and gallons of gas. I would make a list of what I used and replace it the next time I wanted to. Best of luck!!

Guess what Terri. This is your recipe. Yes! Okay, so I changed a few things, but you get all the credit for teaching me how to make apple crisp in the first place. Remember those fun dinners in New York? See, I’m always watchin’ you.
My biggest success with this recipe, sorry, your recipe, was when I served it, hot out of the oven with vanilla ice cream, as a dessert after the Saturday evening session of Stake Conference.
About 15 cooks helped me pull it off and it was a total success. How do you like them apples?
